  • On October 19, Lizzie Browning gave the talk, “Below 2 Feet: Public Housing and Lead Contamination in East Chicago, Indiana,” at the Western History Association annual conference in Las Vegas. On October 24, Lizzie gave the talk, “Claiming Kinship: Toward a History of Hoosier Environmental Ethics,” at the Indiana Humanities INseparable speaker series hosted by Hanover College’s Environmental Stewardship Committee.
  • Jeff Gould presented, “Memorias de Ambivalencia: Nicaragua en los ochentas” at the conference, “La Izquierda en el Siglo XXI” at the University of Guadalajara. Jeff also presented, “Port Triumph” at Loyola University, Baltimore, and Georgetown.
  • Pedro Machado presented the paper, "A Trove of Ocean Riches: Marine Products and the Political Economy of Empire", at the Global History Seminar, Weatherhead Initiative on Global History, Harvard University, on October 28, 2019.
  • On October 20 and 21 Mark Roseman gave the annual Burton C. Einspruch lectures at the University of Texas, Dallas. The titles of the two lectures were "Flowers for the Heinemanns: the hidden history of helping Jews in Nazi Germany" and “Genocide in View: Holocaust Perpetrators in the Eyes of Others.” Mark also published the article “The Holocaust and the illusions of hindsight” in the Oxford University Press online Blog.
  • Kaya Sahin has received a fellowship from the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study for the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Rob Schneider’s book, Dignified Retreat: Writers and Intellectuals in the Age of Richelieu, has just been published by Oxford University Press.
  • Ellen Wu was an invited participant for the roundtable "Global Wars as History: Studying Wars and their Aftermaths" at the Purdue and East Asia: Exploring New Humanities conference hosted by the Purdue Dept. of History October 20-22. She spoke on "Centering War in US Immigration History."
