  • Cynthia Bannon presented a paper, "Freedom in Fideicommissum: Regional and Ideological Justifications" at the 71st session of the Société Internationale Fernand de Visscher des Droits de l'Antiquité in Bologna on September 13, 2017.
  • Colin Elliott delivered a talk at Oxford University entitled “Plague and Prince Controls in the Late Second-Century Roman Empire”. The talk was part of the Disease and the Ancient World symposium held at Green Templeton College.
  • Pedro Machado gave an invited talk, “Precious Networks: Labour, Capital and Pearling in the Indian Ocean,” at Northern Arizona University on September 21.
  • Rebecca Spang presented “Becoming the Archives parlementaires: Assemblies, Secretaries, and Editors, 1789-1889” at a conference in honor of Professor Timothy Tackett at the University of California, Irvine (September 22-23).
  • Ellen Wu discussed the little-known Asian American Movement (1960s/70s) in TIME’s roundup: "7 Things People Get Wrong About American History" (September 26).
  • Mirjam Zadoff published "Jewish Family Business. Ökonomie und Romantik von Mendelssohn bis Kafka", published in Die Familie. Ein Archiv, ed. by Ellen Strittmatter, catalogue for the current exhibition on the same title at the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach.
