- Maria Bucur's book Gendering Modernism: A Reappraisal of the Canon (Bloomsbury Publishing) has just been released.
- Jeff Gould gave a keynote address, "Entre el Bosque y Los Arboles" and showed a film, "La Palabra en el Bosque" at the Encuentro de Estudiantes de Historia at the Universidad Nacional, Medellin.
- Danny James will participate in a conference, titled, "Capitalism and the Camera" co-organized with Kevin Coleman (IU PhD 2012, University of Toronto)) and Ariella Azoulay (Brown University). The conference is funded by the Canadian Social Science Research Council and University of Toronto. It will take place from Thursday, September 14 to Saturday, September 16. He will present a paper entitled "After the Catastrophe: Requiem for a frigorifico".
- Pedro Machado presented an invited paper ("Merchant Networks in Indian Ocean South Asia, Arabian Peninsula and Africa: New Insights into the Histories of Capitalism") at the conference, "Secrets of Business: Empires and Global Commercial Practices in the Early Modern Period", that took place in Leiden on September 7-8 and was organized by King's College, London, the European University Institute, Florence and Leiden University/ERC.
- Congratulations to Jim Madison, who has won a 2017 Emmy Award in the category of Best Historical Documentary from the Lower Great Lakes chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, for his documentary “Hoosiers: The Story of Indiana,” produced by WFYI Indianapolis.
- Graduate student Samson Ndanyi’s article “Kenya’s Return to Despotism,” is published in Africa is a Country.
