- Chris Clements (PhD 2016) won the IU University Graduate School Distinguished PhD Dissertation Award in the Humanities division, for his thesis, "At the Edge of Sovereignty: Building a Mohawk Nation in the U.S. – Canada Borderlands."
- Kalani Craig has been appointed as Co-Director (along with Michelle Dalmau of the Wells Library) of IU's Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities.
- Arlene Diaz has received a 2017-18 Faculty Fellowship from IU's Institute for Digital Arts & Humanities.
- Wendy Gamber's latest book, The Notorious Mrs. Clem, was named a finalist for the Midwestern History Association's 2017 Jon Gjerde Prize for Best Book in Midwestern History.
- Graduate student Szabolcs Laszlo gave a short presentation on the preliminary results of his PhD research at The Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives (OSA) in Budapest, on June 13, with the title: "Reclaiming the Hearts and Minds: Cultural Diplomacy and the Iowa International Writing Program during the Cold War."
- Mark Roseman presented on his forthcoming book, "Rescued Lives," with an ensuing comment by Laura Hobson Fayre, at a special session of the seminar series "Histoire et historiographie de la Shoah." This session was jointly hosted by the Centre de recherches historiques, EHESS-CNRS and the George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention at the American University in Paris, June 15, 2017. His review article "Paradox of Powerlessness," appeared in the Times Literary Supplement (July 7, 2017). Mark's interview with Oxford University Regius Professor, Lyndal Roper, who presented her recent biography of Martin Luther to the European History Workshop last spring, will air on WFIU's Profiles program the weekend of August 19-20, Saturday, August 19, at 5 p.m. on WFIU2 (101.9 FM) and Sunday, August 20, at 6 p.m. on WFIU (103.7). - Dr. Emily J. Sano (B.A., History, 1966) will receive a 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award from IU's College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Sano, who holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Asian Art History from Columbia University, is currently the Coates-Cowden-Brown Senior Advisor for Asian Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art. She previously served as director of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
- Heather Vrana (PhD 2013) has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of History at the University of Florida. She has recently published two books. The first was published in the spring: Anti-Colonial Texts from Central American Student Movements (Edinburgh University Press, 2017) and the second was published in July: This City Belongs to You: A History of Student Activism in Guatemala, 1944-1996 (University of California Press, 2017).
- David Pace's article, "The History Classroom in an Age of Crisis: A Change of Course is Needed," appeared in the May issue of the American Historical Association's Perspectives in History.
