  • Ann Carmichael's chapter, "Registering Deaths and Causes of Death in Late Medieval Milan," has been published in a volume titled Death in Medieval Europe: Death Scripted and Death Choreographed, edited by Joëlle Rollo-Koster and published by Routledge (UK division).
  • Deborah Deliyannis presented a paper on "Materials of Culture in the Seventh Century" at the conference The Material World of the Early Middle Ages at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.
  • Larry Friedman conducted a seminar with the Social Work faculty at Florida State University on September 15 on his book in progress, "Why We Hate: Some Classical Theorists." He also presented to the World War II Institute at Florida State on his other book in progress, "A World Without Nations: The Pragmatic Visionaries, 1945-1963."
  • The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Ben Irvin as associate professor and OAH executive editor, effective summer 2017.
  • Padraic Kenny’s book Budowanie Polski Ludowej. Robotnicy a komuniści 1945-1950, which is a translation of Rebuilding Poland: Workers and Communists, 1945-1950, is a finalist for the Kazimierz Moczarski Book Prize in Polish History.
  • Ed Linenthal and Eric Sandweiss both spoke on October 7 at the 31st Annual Lincoln Colloquium. The meeting took place at the Jasper, Indiana, campus of Vincennes University—a stone’s throw from the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame and the legendary Schnitzelbank Restaurant.
  • As President of the Bloomington Faculty Council, Rebecca Spang recently attended the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) meeting of faculty leaders which was held over two days at Michigan State University. She is also Co-Chair of the Indiana University Faculty Council and in this capacity presents to the Board of Trustees at their regular meetings.
