Ancient History - Greek Historians: Herodotus and Thucydides
HIST-H605 / H705 with Professor Eric Robinson
Herodotus and Thucydides were two of the earliest and greatest of the historians of ancient Greece. While much course time will be spent on the historiographical approaches taken by the two writers – their aims, methods, and styles – we will also study aspects of the monumental conflicts they wrote about, the Persian and Peloponnesian wars. For much of the semester students will discuss common readings and present brief reports; later, they will research and write a substantial paper on a topic of their choosing.
