The constitutional delegates who met in the Indiana Territory of Corydon 200 years ago gave public colleges a place in the constitution of their new state. History, these delegates knew, was key to that public education. Today, IU's History teachers carry on that work...
A message from the chair
Grace Boya Shen, a History Honors student and American Studies major, will address her fellow 6700 graduates and their families at this spring's commencement ceremonies. Originally from Beijing, Grace says that coming to the United States and to Indiana University were her biggest and best decisions ever. At IU, Grace has held internships and worked closely with several history faculty.
Meet Grace
Thanks to the generosity of alumni Carolyn Lewis and Tom Browder, the Department is able to give financial assistance to two History majors doing volunteer summer internships. Matt Guillot from Carmel, IN will be an intern at the Mathers Museum, while Laresa Lund from Markle, IN will work at Indiana University Press.

Emily Winters (BA, 2013), Jennifer Mack (BA, 2004), Martin Minner (PhD, 2005) and Alan Gilman (BA, 1952) discussed their paths from IU History to careers in university administration, exhibition design, editing, and corporate management. Students considered how to make the most of skills acquired in history classes and how to explain their value to prospective employers. We look forward to making this an annual event!
