- Maria Bucur’s book, Birth of Democratic Citizenship. Women and Power in Modern Romania, co-authored with Mihaela Miroiu, has just been released with Indiana University Press.
- Ph.D. student Samuel Fajerstein has won the 2018 REEI Daniel Armstrong Memorial Research Paper Award for his essay: “A Microprocess of Stalinization, 1928-1930: The Transformation of Puti sel’skogo khoziaistva and the “Army of Soviet Agronomists.”
- PhD candidate Aaron Fountain published "Building a Student Movement in Naptown: The Corn Cob Curtain Controversy, Free Speech, and 1960s and 1970s High School Activism in Indianapolis," in the Indiana Magazine of History September 2018 issue.
- Michael Grossberg gave a talk, “Keeping It From the Kids: Censorship and Childhood in Modern America,” at a conference on “Writing History Through Children,” sponsored by Northwestern University’s Department of History and held on October 5, 2018.
- Mark Roseman gave the keynote “No smoke without fire? Hostility towards Jews from ancient times to the Holocaust” at a Symposium on Antisemitism held at Indianapolis Central Library under the auspices of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Indianapolis, October 10, 2018.
- Rebecca Spang had a busy week in London. In addition to attending the History Workshop Journal Annual General Meeting, she gave three talks: “From the Library of the Chamber of Deputies to the Archives Parlementaires: Life and Labours of Jérôme Mavidal and Emile Laurent, Editors” (Modern France Seminar, Institute for Historical Research); “Brothers without Fraternity: Sibling Relations and the French Revolution" (Center for Eighteenth-Century Studies, Queen Mary-University of London); and “The Money of the Poor: Financial Inclusion in Historical Perspective” (Raphael Samuel History Centre).
- Amanda Waterhouse presented a paper, "The Body Utopic: American Anticommunism & the Urban Planning of Bogotá," last week at the European Academy in Berlin. The conference, "Transforming Cities: Urbanization and International Development Policies in the Global South in the Twentieth Century," was sponsored by the Free University Berlin and the Bundeswehr University Munich.
- Jakobi Williams will present a talk titled “Contemporary Intersections of Race, Politics, and Sports: Momentous Events of 1968,” at Butler University’s 2018 Thornbrough Lecture, taking place at Robertson Hall, Butler University, on Friday, November 2 at 6:00 pm.
