- In July, Colin Johnson attended the annual meeting of the Australian Historical Association in Canberra, where he presented a revised version of a paper entitled "The Lesser Intimacies." Colin presented an earlier version of this same paper in the US History Workshop last spring. This month he will give a talk entitled "On Teaching Sexism and Homophobia" at the Tenth Annual European Feminist Research Conference in Göttingen, Germany. Colin was also recently appointed to serve a three-year term on American Studies Association's standing Committee on Gender and Sexuality Studies.
- Micol Seigel's book, Violence Work: State Power and the Limits of Police, was published in August by Duke University Press. The press has made the full introduction of the book available at https://www.dukeupress.edu/violence-work. Her edited volume, Panic, Transnational Cultural Studies, and the Affective Contours of Power, was released in July by Routledge. Micol is currently in Brazil as the 2018-2019 Fulbright Distinguished Chair in International Relations at the University of São Paulo; while there, she has given talks at the Casa das Pretas in Rio de Janeiro and the University of São Paulo; has scheduled talks at the bookstore Tapera Taperá in São Paulo, the University of Bahia in Salvador, and the Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia; and will keynote the International Conference on Regional Racism at the Universidad Católica del Norte, in Antofagasta, Chile, on September 7. Micol will be back in Bloomington in October.
