  • PhD candidate Aaron Fountain was cited in The Atlantic about student activism emerging after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
  • Jeff Gould gave a talk at the Universidad Tecnologica entitled, “Utopias Menores en America Central” and presented his documentary film, “Puerto el Triunfo,” at the Universidad de El Salvador and at the Casa de Cultura in Puerto el Triunfo.
  • Peter Guardino visited the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico on February 19 and 20. He gave a talk titled "La historia de una historia de la invasión norteamericana," (History of A History of the North American Invasion). He also participated in a presentation of his book The Dead March: A History of the Mexican-American War and a historiography seminar focused on the book. On February 26, Peter gave the talk "Without Food a Man Cannot March, Nor Fight: Why Mexico Lost its War with the United States" at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapid, Michigan. He was hosted by IU history doctoral alum David Stark, and also had the chance to visit with IU history doctoral alums Grace Coolidge, Jason Crouthamel, and Paul Murphy, all of whom send greetings.
  • Tatiana Saburova and Ben Eklof's article, 'Remembrances of a Distant Past': Generational Memory and the Collective Auto/Biography of Russian Populists in the Revolutionary Era has been published in a special issue of the British journal The Slavonic and East European Review, Vol. 96, No. 1, Writing Russian Lives: The Poetics and Politics of Biography in Modern Russian Culture (January 2018), pp. 67-93.
  • Rebecca Spang will spend academic year 2018-2019 as a Fellow of the International Center for Finance and a Visiting Professor at the Yale School of Management.
  • In 2017, publication of the third Chinese edition of Lynn Struve's first book, The Southern Ming, elicited two interviews on her Southern Ming research the Beijing News Book Review Weekly and China Business News, respectively. Another interview, regarding her work in the history of Ming-period China, is now appearing in the latest issue of Ming Studies.
