- Last Friday Konstantin Dierks gave a presentation entitled "Representational Dilemmas in Historical GIS" to the Spring 2016 Colloquium Series of the IU Department of Geography. He has also been awarded an Overseas Conference Grant from the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs, to support his travel to the United Kingdom.
- Michael Dodson presented a keynote lecture at the School for Advanced Research in the Social Sciences in Paris on December 4th entitled "Banaras as Modern Times." He also was a presenter on the C. A. Bayly memorial panel held at the AHA conference earlier this month. His edited collection of essays and photographs, Banaras: Urban Forms and Cultural Histories , has just come out in a paperback edition.
- On January 4, Ben Eklof gave a talk at the Herzen State Library in Kirov, Russia, on "Local Boy (and Revolutionary) Nikolai Charushin: New Findings from the Archives". On January 21, he spoke at the IU School of Education to a group of visiting Russian international education administrators on "Comparing Higher Education in the US and in Russia."
- Lara Kriegel presented "The Charge of the Light Brigade, the Crimean War and the Long Shadow of the Victorian Age" at Purdue University this past Monday. Additionally, her essay, "Ladies, Lace and Labours Lost: The Meanings of Handicraft in Victorian and Edwardian Britain," appeared in the edited volume Art Versus Industry? (Manchester, 2016).
- Hiroaki Kuromiya is the recipient of an Overseas Conference Grant from the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs, to support his travel to Russia.
- Jason McGraw gave a talk, "Recognition as the Social Practice of Citizenship in Postemancipation Colombia," at the UCL Institute of the Americas in London on January 20.
- Graduate student Samson Ndanyi’s book review of Edward Spiers's The Victorian Soldier in Africa: Studies in Imperialism is published in the Journal of Retracing Africa 2, no. 1 (Fall 2015).
- Tatiana Saburova has joined the Editorial Board of the journal Slavica located at Indiana University.
- Kaya Sahin has been appointed to a three-year term as Academic Director of the Indiana University Eurasia Gateway in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Mary Werden (PhD 2015) now serves as Communications Director for David Trone's Congressional campaign in Maryland's 8th District. The race has drawn national attention with Kathleen Matthews (wife of Chris Matthews) and law professor Jamie Raskin in the race.
